What programs do I need for my Nintendo DS to read pdf files?

Posted Monday, June 15, 2009 by admin

I have a Supercard and I would like to know if it is possible to read pdf files on my DS and if so, which programs I need.
If pdf support is not yet supported on the DS, is there any program I could use to convert a pdf file to a eBook file because I know there are eBook readers out there.

Believe it or not, the DS isn’t powerful enough to render PDF files. Hence, no homebrew PDF readers for DS. I’m a programmer, and I was just as surprised. Apparently it just doesn’t have enough RAM or something (which makes sense, because the ARM processors should be plenty powerful enough to render PDFs).
All of the eBook readers on DS I’ve seen only read plain ASCII .txt files (keeping in mind that eBook is not a specific file format, but the collective term for an electronic book in any file format, like PDF, TXT, DOC etc).

And yes, there are PDF to TXT converters around. A quick google search turns up a few free ones, but I can’t vouch for their quality.
