Gutenberg books margin?

Posted Friday, October 9, 2009 by admin

Whenever I download books from Project Gutenberg.org, they’re usually all messed up. The right margin is pushed back, so that while the lines look aligned, they’re really only half as long as they should be. Whenever I try to convert the files to the format my ebook reader uses — Microsoft reader’s “lit” — every other line is broken.

It converts from
lines which look
like this,

to lines that look like this, the
line
breaks from the gutenburg text
as
well as those from the actual
end of
the line counted as breaks.

Anyway … is there any program anyone uses to correct these formatting errors?

You could try downloading the plain text instead. The only way to correct those format errors is by hand. Very tiresome.
