What tools/materials do you recommend to help me become a better sales analyst?

Posted Sunday, February 21, 2010 by admin

I basically track and forecast sales for a series of products for various retail companies both large and small. While I’m not new to the retail industry, I am new to being at the corporate level. For the first two years since graduating college (business major), I really never put my degree to use and I feel as if I lost the drive that I had for business. Since I obtained a sales analyst position (almost a year ago), I spent the time since trying to learn as much as possible while attempting to acclimate myself with the environment. I know that with the right motivation, I can dive right back into my groove and to do that I need the proper materials (i.e., books, programs, websites, discussion groups, etc). Anyone make any recommendations?

I wish I could help more I was just tremedously successful at sales but I do track my own product. I subscribe to magazines within my industry-online- they are always ahead of the trends.
Fortune for small business by American Express is always ahead of the curve. I have an AMEX Gold card and they send the magazine automatically and it covers all types of industries. This may sound strange but the farmers almanac always predicts trends and is pretty accurate. Comes out in Dec Jan each year. Do some street surveys. These are just practical applications. I don’t know much about charts or stuff.
    hope this helps.
If you wish to know the trends in the internet/electronic industry there is a magazine put out by the Adult network that is so far ahead of normal trends in that area. They were the original innovators of a lot of the systems we use today. Unfortuantely I have forgotten the name but they track the adult network sites on the internet.
