Why is there a discount on some ebooks from the same publishing house?

I wanted to purchase an ebook and was waiting for a discount. I’ve noticed that Fictionwise has put a discount on selected ebooks from the same publishers! The ebook I wanted to purchase was published in 2008, yet the discounted ebooks are from 2009-2010.

    Different places can charge different amounts – it just means they are willing to make less money on some books (perhaps because they weren’t selling or perhaps as a loss leader).
